Meet Shon Pierre of Rosie Mae Music Group in Laguna Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shon Pierre.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in South Central Los Angeles where my mom, my uncle, and my sister played all types of music around me. I’m saying from Hip Hop to Oldies, Dancehall, R&B, to even Eric Clapton. My mother then moved me to Orange County to give me better opportunities so I wouldn’t fall a victim to the streets of LA. Making that move is when I discovered a whole new world of music and was exposed to different genres and sounds, encompassing everything from alternative and punk to rock and country. Music became my passion and later on I was in the right place at the right time that gave me the opportunity to start writing music with super producer Roy “Royalty” Hamilton, who have produced music for Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, and Britney Spears, just to name a few. Working with Roy trained my ears to understand how to put records together. This opportunity also taught me patience, persistence, and to always go after what I am passionate about. This was the start of me building my network throughout the music industry which then led me to having solid relationships with legends such as: Travis Barker, The Game, Skrillex, Romeo Miller, and many more. Building the relationship with Romeo, Game, and Travis turned more into a brotherhood and the three became my big brothers and mentors more than anything, three great humans who are there to guide me with the best advice possible in this tough industry.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth? Nothing is smooth about the music industry or the entertainment industry period per say. This industry could drive you crazy if you aren’t strong mentally. It is easy to get caught up in the extra activities if you lose focus on what you really do it for and know your purpose. You have to know and understand your end goal and apprehend that it takes hard work. Most importantly you have to understand that you don’t owe anyone to believe in what you are passionate about besides yourself. My struggle was always “am I doing enough?” Sometimes we do all that we can and it feels like we aren’t getting the results we were looking for. However, this taught me to keep pushing and never give up.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Rosie Mae Music Group is an independent record label named after my late Grandmother. I started RMMG a couple of years ago. I am a songwriter, producer, and DJ. I am known for making music, bringing solid energy around, and supplying the vibes. I am most proud of building this on my own to someday give an opportunity to someone I believe is talented enough and strong enough to handle what this industry has to offer. Right now, I am most proud of playing Rolling Loud this past weekend. That was epic and I have to thank my brother Game for the opportunity. My first show was just in May and six months later I’m playing in the Coliseum with a music Legend, that’s wild. I still haven’t decompressed that moment. It’s crazy!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
YES! LA is the place everyone wants to be. LA is great for networking, you just can’t be afraid to speak and introduce yourself. You never know who you may be sitting next to at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You just have to be respectful and network. I would just tell anyone that does move here for entertainment that there are hundreds if not thousands of others just like them here to do the same thing, so be mentally prepared because it is tough. Also, find out what they are going to do to separate them from the others.
