Meet Dawn Danielle of Dawn and The Horizon in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Danielle.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dawn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been singing background vocals and recording music for more than a decade. My first singing job was with Young MC as a teen, when I met him on an airplane and convinced him to record me singing! After two years of working together, I went on to sing with Brian McKnight, after a friend of mine invited me to an exclusive event, where I was hand-picked to sing cheek to cheek with him, and a lady from The Emotions. While singing with Brian, Bobby Lyle accompanied us on the piano, and after rocking the house, invited me to record with him! As I was recording, I was offered an assistant job at Warner Music Group and looked at it as an opportunity to learn the music business.

While working there, I was asked to sing for one season of the hit tv series, Friends, as the warm-up entertainer for the live studio audience. I also sang The National Anthem for the Anaheim Angels, the LA Dodgers, and the Los Angeles Kings. After all these years, I’ve finally realized my own personal dream is to produce my own project of funky soul music, like the kind of music that Teena Marie, Chaka Khan, and Joss Stone sang. Empowering songs with angst.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the music business, there can be many distractions. It’s hard to stay focused when you’re being pulled in numerous directions with no guidance from a manager. There were many times I spent too much time getting OUT of a job then it took just to get one, and building a team I can trust, takes time. Right now, we are currently building our fan base through Instagram and Facebook, and actively recording our single.

Please tell us about Dawn and The Horizon.
Dawn and The Horizon were formed after attending a BBQ, where my drummer asked if I had any projects going on. When I told him my personal dream was to record a modern throwback album with a funky soul vibe, he loved it! It took us almost a year, but we finally found a full band with Miguel Barerra (Drums), Max Daniel (Guitar), Antoine Don (Bass), and Zach Landreean (Keyboards). I just don’t hear the kind of music we’re doing on the radio anymore. Thank goodness we have so many music platforms now, so independent artists can get their music out.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve had many mentors along the way. One of my biggest advocates is The MaryLind Choir that I have been a part of for more than 12 years. We sing gospel music, and I’ve grown so much with them. They’ve really taught me how to sing and help others, and I’m so honored to be a part of their group. Another big supporter is the Co-founder of @StrollerMoms, Corianna Di Julio, who has shown me how to treat this project as a business and help get it off the ground. And then there’s my family, with whom I would have nothing without them. It takes a village, and I’m so grateful they haven’t given up on me!
