Today we’d like to introduce you to Chieh-Hsin (Jessie) Chen.
Hi Chieh-Hsin (Jessie) , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I became a chiropractor because my parents wanted me to be a doctor. Growing up in a family with a medical background, I was surrounded by doctors, including MDs, RNs, PharmDs, and so on. However, I didn’t choose to study in a medical field in college. My major was environmental economics and politics. I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur instead of an employee.
In 2019, I graduated from chiropractic school and began my career. After working as an employee for 3-4 months, I was informed by the clinic owner that I was a smart doctor but not a great employee. We agreed on this fact, so I left and started my journey of becoming a business owner.
I was fortunate enough to find a developed clinic for sale, which marked the beginning of my entrepreneurial path.
After the first clinic becomes stable and self-sustaining, I began investing in the second clinic and other exciting business ventures that pique my interest, such as restaurants and film making.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting clinics has been a smooth path for me due to my family background in medicine. I have a great team that has helped me achieve this.
Regarding my other business, I would like to share the story of how I was scammed by my restaurant partner. I’m not sure if this is relevant.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a patient-oriented chiropractic clinic that has proudly served the community for the past five years. We specialize in providing chiropractic care for various types of injuries, and we have extensive experience in post-auto accident care.
Our team is diverse and inclusive, with a strong commitment to providing LGBTQ-friendly care. While we don’t accept insurance, we believe that chiropractors play a crucial role in healthcare and can be just as important as family practitioners. Therefore, we’ve set our cash visit prices at very affordable rates so that everyone in the community can access the necessary healthcare.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I firmly believe in taking risks, especially when we’re young. My wife and I believe that we should seize life’s opportunities while we can, so we’re willing to invest in various fields that pique our interest.
In my opinion, taking risks is essential for achieving significant rewards. These rewards don’t just come in the form of money; they encompass experiences, friendships, and connections. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many remarkable individuals across different fields, while also learning valuable lessons from some not-so-successful ventures.
Looking back, I’m confident in my ability to take risks because I have a supportive family who would stand by me no matter what. I’m fortunate that I don’t have to worry about numerous financial constraints while I challenge myself in life. Now that I have a stable business, I’m eager to continue taking risks and exploring new experiences.
