Conversations with Lisa Caskey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Caskey.

Lisa Caskey

Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Ghostwriting, writing, and editing novels are my passions. I am a bestselling ghostwriter and editor of high-performing non-fiction books. I have helped more than 30 authors tell their stories and a dozen are bestsellers.

My writing, editing, and publishing journey started in 1989 when I was 7. I wrote, printed, and bound four tiny books about silly things that would only matter to a kid in the second grade. Throughout the rest of my adolescence, I continued to put pen to paper. I filled the pages of my journals with poetry and dabbled in playwriting.

I “published” again in 2016, with a focus on fiction. I wrote “The Farmed,” in 2016, book 1 of a young adult, science fiction trilogy. Books 2 and 3, “The Mutated” and “The Cured,” were published in 2017.

From there, I moved into the curious world of non-fiction. From 2017 to 2019, I ghostwrote financial services books. I then branched out, and between 2019 and 2022, ghostwrote and developmentally edited non-fiction books covering a wide variety of topics like science, technology, cyber security, customer success, marketing, and HR.

In 2023, I added a few memoirs to my roster. I also got back into the fiction game—I released MOTHERBOARD: 00, the first of an 11-book mini-series, in 2023.

Today, I continue to help authors tell their stories—I specialize in science, technology, engineering, math, and the arts.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honors from the University of Arizona and spend my free time with my horse, Annabel Lee, and my pup, Kristi Yamaguchi.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Self-doubt was an obstacle in the beginning. I quit my well-paid tech job to pursue writing full-time, and it took a while for the money to come in.

I can’t tell you how many times I doubted my ability to “make it” and questioned my decision to quit my job. I thought about returning to Corporate America a lot…I’m so happy I didn’t!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an author, ghostwriter, and editor of bestselling non-fiction books! I have a degree in fine arts and a background in tech—I specialize in non-fiction, business books about science, technology, engineering, math, and the arts. I have helped more than 30 authors around the world tell their stories.

My gift is my ability to connect with my authors so I can communicate their thoughts and ideas clearly. One of my favorite things to do is learn more about the lives of the authors I work with, both personal and professional.

I also write fiction books. I focus on dystopian science fiction, specifically cyberpunk. As of early 2024, I have four books out: “The Farmed,” “The Mutated,” “The Cured,” and “Motherboard: 00.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I heard the saying once…”Luck is opportunity meeting a prepared mind.”

I have been very lucky to receive the opportunities I have, but I cannot give away all the credit of any success I have to luck. If I hadn’t been prepared, nothing would have come from the opportunities.

I have been lucky, but I’ve also been prepared. I think preparedness is the key to success!
