Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarred Harper.
Hi Jarred, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started when I moved to New York City to enroll in the acting school The William Esper Studio. After graduation, I performed in Off-Broadway plays and it wasn’t until I was cast in a movie and got to see a proper film set that I fell in love with the filmmaking process. I then set my sights on TV and film projects and also began creating my own work. My creative partners and I started our own production company, AWRY Productions, to provide filmmaking services to all types of creatives, storytellers, and musicians. The writing, directing, and producing side of filmmaking became a big focus of mine and I enjoy that side of the work. Now I stay busy creating my own original projects while also getting hired to act in other people’s stories.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first memorable struggle along the way was when I was trying desperately to find the right acting school for me. The William Esper Studio truly saved me and brought out my true creative self. Another struggle was finding like-minded driven individuals to non on this same journey together with, I am very thankful that I was able to find my creative partners and friends to help each other navigate and encourage through this ever-changing industry of show business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have had two successful Off-Broadway appearances in New York City, in addition, I recently wrapped a feature film in which I was the lead character that was shot in the magnificent country of Egypt. That is set to release this summer 2023 in LA. Those are a few accomplishments that I am proud of thus far. A few things that set me apart from other artists is that I have a passion for acting paired with being a filmmaker. So I very much enjoy being in front of the camera and also behind camera telling innovative stories that challenge audiences to think and feel.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, I have realized how much I appreciate collaborating and meeting with people to help each other accomplish our creative visions. It was hard to get inspired when we were all isolated in our apartments and not able to connect with one another. I enjoy the camaraderie that comes along with filmmaking and acting. I am a people person and believe that my best work is done when I am with other creatives trying to solve the problem at hand and tell compelling inspiring stories.
