Today we’d like to introduce you to Anika Nielsen.
Hi Anika, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Music has always been a big part of my life, and in my senior year of high school, I decided to take it to the next level and began working with my producer, Mark Vogel. I began by trying to figure out my style and what kind of message I wanted to portray in my songs, and I began by writing down short sets of lyrics in a notebook. Eventually, I was able to take some of those smaller ideas and turn them into the songs that I am so proud to have created today. I’ve always had an appreciation for how music can really tap into our emotions and how we can become so moved by a simple line or lyric. Having people come up to me crying after recitals as a child was an extremely eye-opening and rewarding experience that I will never forget.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think one of the most difficult things in the beginning for me was finding my true sound, what felt right for me. It took me a while to figure out not only what I wanted my vocals to sound like but the tracks in my songs in combination with those vocals as well. I actually completely scrapped my first song, which was disappointing because I put a lot of time and effort into recording it, but it all goes back to my 110% effort belief: It wasn’t exactly what I wanted it to be, so I had to rethink my whole strategy and start again.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an emerging artist who recently released my first EP. I worked on that project for over two years, and I am extremely proud of it. After releasing music for the first time, I was able to collaborate with the amazing Diane Foster to make the music video for my song, “Make Me Wanna.” This was one of the best experiences of my life, and the song has gained more recognition after the release of this video. Diane has decided to include it in her feature film, “Easter Bloody Easter,” and the video will soon be featured on MTV Australia!
For what sets me apart, I always try to be authentic with my music. I write all of my own songs based on personal feelings and experiences that I have had. Being true to myself is an aspect of being an artist that I will not compromise on.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can support me by streaming my EP “Anika,” which is available on all platforms, and watch the music video for “Make Me Wanna” on YouTube!
