Check Out Leimmi Zhang’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leimmi Zhang.

Hi Leimmi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.

I am a Co-Founder and Product Designer at a SaaS startup called 10ure. The team met in early 2020, composed of maritime professionals, engineers, and designers who share a passion for streamlining operations for the maritime industry. We were inspired when we learned that many of the processes are still done manually in an industry that supports 90% of the world’s commerce transports.

Our solution is a complete ecosystem that allows seamless employer-employee communication. It enables businesses to better hire qualified talents and manage employee compliance. The companion app empowers maritime professionals to discover career opportunities, track their credentials, and log sea time. As with all startups, building our vision is always a clash between ideals and practicality. Incorporating the two seamlessly requires a cohesive team effort. 10ure is now live on the Apple App Store and Google Play, additional features soon to come.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our team’s biggest struggle is not being able to celebrate every win (big or small) together in person due to the pandemic. Additionally, like in any business, we have had many learning opportunities as a startup that we welcomed with open arms. The team consists of open-minded, creative, and strategic professionals, thus when we collaborate, we have no problem tackling each of these learning opportunities.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a product designer with one goal, which is to develop a design that can improve people’s lives. This passion attracted me to others who are alike, which eventually lead us to 10ure. Previously, I have done design work (software/mobile app designs) for the life sciences and healthcare industry, which I still partake in. Between all of these projects, I also have managed to complete my Masters of Science Degree from USC, Iovine and Young Academy. I am proud to have the opportunity to provide a diverse perspective and influence as a female entrepreneur and female in tech. When building a successful product, it is essential to combine perspectives from diverse backgrounds to expand potential solutions.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Outside of the digital world, I am a prize-winning Halloween costume designer. I made it a tradition to create my own Halloween costume every year as a way to express my creativity. Also, I gave myself the name “Leimmi” when I first moved to the US from Japan when I was ten. I had thought that any combination of letters would create a “normal” American name – it turns out I was wrong. It is still my legal name, but I am very much proud of it!
