Today we’d like to introduce you to Gogo Lomo-David.
Gogo, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started my acting journey on the stage when I was five in a play that my mom wrote and produced. However, my passion for acting did not fully arrive until I was a freshman in high school performing in the musical “Grease.” I remember it was just a few moments before I was to step on stage for the first time in that role and I got this surge of energy. That was the moment I knew I wanted to be an actor.
In college, I was a double major in professional theatre and business management. I graduated college in 2013 and worked as an actor in the southeast market in theatre, tv, film, commercials, and voiceovers.
In January of 2016, I moved to Los Angeles and continued my acting journey.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Professional acting is my life work, and TV, film, as well as voiceover, have been the core of my career. However, 2019 marks my debut of a lead role in a music video, productivity with writing, and production of my own content. Entertainment has always been my passion particularly with my ability to provoke deep conversation and encourage acceptance of different perspectives within my sphere of influence.
My greatest fulfillment in my career is playing various characters in different roles. Each character I portray has its purpose, and some of those characters connect with the audience on such a personal level. I believe my craft of acting is a powerful tool for individuals to utilize to discuss sensitive topics and serious situations. My desire as an artist is to create lasting impressions and entertainment with my audience for years to come.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
My advice for actors in entering this business is to know what you want down to the details. Do not be afraid to craft a vision that engages all the senses in its description. It is also important to hold your vision with an open hand so that you can receive that which you desire and more.
Realize that the time is now and that you must take advantage of the opportunity you have today. One of my mentors told me you need to earn your pillow. At the end of the day have you earned the right to go to sleep and if you have that’s great but if you haven’t what else can you do before you lay your head on that pillow.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I am in the new season of Shameless. My episodes will air in early December on Showtime.
