Today we’d like to introduce you to Blendy Hurtado.
Hi Blendy , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey really starts with my family. I’m a proud first-generation college graduate, raised in a lower-income Latina household. I’ve been working since I was 14, with a work permit and a strong desire to help support my family. Growing up with a sister who has autism deeply shaped me. It taught me compassion, patience, and a sense of responsibility that led me toward healthcare.
In 2012, I enrolled in medical assistant school, and by 2013 I was working at Accesa Health’s original urgent care clinic while attending college. I later went on to nursing school in 2019 and, like many of us in healthcare, I was working non-stop while studying.
Owning my own clinic had always been a dream of mine, something I held onto quietly through the years of hard work, long shifts, and school nights. In September 2022, that dream became a reality when I became a co-owner of Accesa Health, alongside Ivette, who joined the practice in 2020, and Dr. Phan, who’s been with us since 2014. Dr. Phan gave us a chance when others might not have, and we are so thankful for his belief in us. Ivette is one of the smartest, most hardworking people I know, an incredibly dedicated partner who inspires me every day.
Together, we’ve transformed Accesa from an urgent care into a modern med spa focused on wellness, beauty, and personalized care, especially for the Hispanic community that helped shape who I am.
We’ve streamlined operations, improved the business, and transformed the space to better serve the community we love. I feel so blessed to be part of a team that leads with heart, purpose, and authenticity.
To me, Accesa Health is more than a business. It’s a reflection of our journey and a love letter to the community we serve.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s definitely been worth it.
One of the biggest challenges has been not coming from a business or marketing background. As a nurse, I was trained to care for people, not run a business. Stepping into entrepreneurship meant learning everything from operations and finances to marketing and now even rebranding, all from the ground up.
My team and I have figured out so much through trial and error. It’s taken discipline, long hours, asking a lot of questions, and constantly learning on our own.
Balancing all of that with patient care and the day to day realities of running a clinic has been overwhelming at times. But what’s kept us going is showing up, staying rooted in our mission, and being open to learning every step of the way.
We’ve been impressed with Accesa Health, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re a small, Latina-owned med spa started by two nurses who just wanted to create a space where people feel truly cared for. We offer treatments like microneedling, PRP, facials, neurotoxins, IV therapy, laser hair removal, and a medical weight loss program but more than anything, we focus on making people feel good in their skin.
What makes us different? Giving back to the Hispanic community means so much to us, it’s where we come from and what shaped us. Every provider at Accesa is bilingual, so our clients feel understood and truly cared for. We’re nurses first, so safety and real results are always top priority, but we also lead with warmth, honesty, and heart. That’s what makes our space feel different.
We’re most proud of the trust we’ve built with our clients and the fact that we’ve grown mostly by word of mouth. It means a lot when people come back or send their friends because they feel safe with us.
At the end of the day, Accesa Health is all about helping people feel seen, supported, and confident.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success is about growth. Its about growing as a business owner, a nurse, and a woman, while staying true to my values. It’s about being genuinely happy and content with who I am, but also using that to give to others. Success isn’t just about what I achieve, but how I show up for myself and the people around me.
